MEDICARE PART D PRESCRIPTION NOTIFICATION
Now that we are in the second year of the Medicare Part D prescription program questions have arisen about the employer responsibility to notify Medicare participants of their status. The law requires a yearly notification as to the status of your prescription benefit through your employer provided plan. The employer is required to inform you if you have comparable coverage which means your employer coverage is equal to or better than the federal Medicare Part D benefit. If your coverage is equal to or better than the Medicare Part D coverage you need do nothing but save the notice. Questions had risen about how often the employer must inform you as to your status. The regulation requires notification by the employer once a year.
