Since 2002, the American Labor Studies center has been working hard to provide teachers with high quality teaching materials and resources to help them integrate labor history and labor studies into the K-12 curriculum nationwide.
We have advanced this mission primarily through our award winning web site (www.labor-studies.org) as well as presentations and workshops, a Labor Film and Music Festival, and a forthcoming study on how labor is treated in American history textbooks in cooperation with the Albert Shanker Institute. In addition, the ALSC is restoring the Kate Mullany National Historic Site in Troy which is the home of a young Irish immigrant who formed the nation's first all women's union in 1864 and developing Kate Mullany Park adjacent to the house.
The ALSC is an all-volunteer, non profit organization that relies on the support of individuals and organizations who share its goals and mission to continue its work. We invite you to help the ALSC by supporting our Annual Recognition Reception which will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on December 3 at the New York State United Teachers, 800 Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham, New York.
