Kerri Creegan (A) has been selected as Long Island Council for the Social Studies High School
Social Studies Teacher of the Year. Kerri was honored on Wednesday, May 28th at the Long Island
Sheraton Hotel, in Hauppauge. There was a small reception with awards given out later. This is
the second year in a row that this honor was won by a Massapequa Teacher! Last year Janine Krill,
a main campus Social Studies teacher of Global and World AP won the honor.
Kerri has been a staff developer for the Social Studies Department - as a rigor and relevance
trainer for the High School and Middle School teachers. She has also trained elementary teachers
on how to teach kids to write a DBQ. She was tapped by the LOTE department last spring to run a 2
hour staff development on DBQs because the LOTE regents is beginning to incorporate working with
documents.
Kerri has also been a presenter at Professional Social Studies Organizations both locally,
state-wide and nationally. Congratulations Kerri!
The Festival of Races
held at Eisenhower Park took place during the weekend of May 3rd and 4th. On Saturday, May 3rd,
a 5K race was added and Tom Jacoby (A) placed 7th overall. The half marathon, held Sunday,
May 4th, had even more participants from the Ames faculty than last year. Those participating were
Jerry Trotta, Dave Summers, Kerri Creegan, Matt Loew, Keri LaMagna, Sean Lasky, and Tom Jacoby.
Everyone completed the half marathon which was 13.1 miles! Congratulations to the ever growing
"Ames Team"!
