KPCTA Awarded Honors
at NYSUT Representative Assembly

2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
Local Community Service Award

This award was created in 1996 to recognize those locals that have made a collective and sustained contribution to community service during the year. These efforts are recognized because they not only enhance the learning opportunities of students but also enrich the quality of life in their communities. Thank You to all our members who volunteered their time, energy, and money for the many charitable causes we were involved in this year!

2006 VOTE/COPE Campaign Albert Shanker Award

The RA paid tribute to the 28 locals that earned the union's highest award for fund-raising efforts for VOTE/COPE, NYSUT's voluntary political action fund. The award, named after the late Al Shanker, goes to locals with members contributing an average of at least $50 each.

KPCTA wins Saturn/UAW Partnership Award

Fledgling educators are not left to sink or swim in the Kings Park district on Long Island.

Under a mentoring program developed four years ago by administrators and union leaders to increase retention, new teachers receive two years of hands-on mentoring under the watchful eyes of experienced educators in their subject areas. An estimated 300 new teachers have participated.

The mentoring program earned a 2003 American Federation of Teachers-Saturn-United Auto Workers Partnership Award for the Kings Park TA, led by Russell Mathie, and administrators. Hamburg in Erie County was also among the six districts chosen from a pool of more than 10,000 applicants nationally, to receive the award for productive partnerships.
