by Leroy Cole - Hyde Park Retire Teachers - from the HPTA Contact April/May 2009 Issue
It was recently announced that Hyde Park retired Kindergarten teahcer, Carole Chambers, will receive one of the 2009 NYSUT Community Service Awards at the Representative Accembly in Buffalo. It was the first time that a retired teacher in the southeast region has won the award.
The award was created in 1992 to recognize the contribution of NYSUT members to the growth and well being of the communities in which they live and work. Carole's involvement in such organizations as: The Hyde Park Historical Society, The Hyde Park Museum, The Mills Mansion Children's Program, Poughkeepsie Children's Home, Marist College Lifetime Learning Institute, and for more than a decade of service to the Hyde Park Library Board warranted the recognition.
While a member of the HPTA, Carole was on the Executive Council for many years. She was a delegate to state and national conventions, a contract negotiator, and was also a founding member of the Hyde Park Benefit Trust.
