2009 NYSUT Journalism Competition Award
Recognizing outstanding NYSUT local union publications throughout the state, the New York Teacher Journalism Competition covers entries produced between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008. Winners of the competition, sponsored by New York Teacher, were honored at a luncheon at NYSUT's 2009 Representative Assembly in Buffalo, NY, held April 2-4, 2009.
Gates Chili Teachers' Association received two Awards of Merit in the NYSUT Journalism Competition at the 37th Annual Representative Assembly of NYSUT. The Gates Chili Teachers' Association website (www.nysut.org/gateschili) received one of the two awards for "Best Website, and the second award was given to the January/February 2008 edition of the VOICE for "Best Column or Editorial."
VOICE editor and GCTA Webmaster, Susan Evans, accepted the awards at the Journalism Editors' luncheon. Evans' husband, Bill Waller, and GCTA President, Bill Ahearn, with his wife, retired GCTA member, Lori Ahearn, also attended the luncheon.
