1. Uphold the contract and be informed of all important educational issues.
- All grievances were settled at Step One of the grievance process.
- The Executive Council received Building Rep training in Sept. by our NYSUT Labor Relations Specialist.
- Distributed information via the newsletter and Building Reps about mandatory reporting of Child Abuse and also tenure changes.
-We had excellent attendance at conferences and workshops again this year which enables us to gather and share important information with our membership.
- A letter was sent to the BOE and Supt. by the five district bargaining units notifying them that their request to re-open negotiations was denied..
2. Continue to educate members on the importance of the contract and benefits available through NYSUT and AFT.
- At the new staff orientation in August, sick bank, membership and contract information were presented and discussed.
- Mentor Committee distributed binders to all new hires to hold contracts, CTA constitution, CCSD Survival Guide and the NYSUT Survival Guide. Gift bags were also given to all new hires.
-The Mentor/Induction Program provides various presentations throughout the school year which inform and educate new teachers.
-CTA newsletter includes information and articles on NYSUT and AFT benefits.
-Information was also available and distributed at the Wellness Fair held on Supt.’s Day.
-CTA website also contains valuable information and has links for members to seek information they may need or directs them to the NYSUT website.
- CTA held a Retirement Workshop featuring Mike Corn that was attended by more than 100 members.
3. Increase participation of members on CTA committees and CTA events.
- All committees were up and running throughout the year with a large percentage of Executive Council Members participating. It is noted however that we still need to work very hard on getting more people active in the CTA.
- The LAP program has provided us with monies to do more activities with our members.
-Participation at all CTA events has steadily increased.
4. Create a sense of union identity and responsibility through activities that involve the entire membership.
-CTA food drive collected over 1,000 items for the Carthage Food Pantry.
-United Way Campaign raised over $10,000 with the help of CTA members.
-Holiday cards were distributed to all members.
-Teacher Recognition Week; thank you letter to all members, donuts, daily surprise treats and a TGIF at Keddy’s.
-A holiday CTA TGIF was provided for all members.
-Volleyball tournament
-Bowling extravaganza
- CTA mugs were distributed at the beginning of the year.
- CTA water bottles were distributed at the March Supt. Day
- Senior citizen dinner
-Dinner theater
-Reception in memory of Gail Crimmins
5. Improve communication within and among members of the CTA.
-CTA newsletter has continued to improve and is distributed on a bi-monthly basis.
-CTA website has been updated and is a good source of information for members.
-Building leaders have done a good job of distributing information in a timely manner.
-District and CTA Committee reports are included in the CTA minutes.
-CTA sympathy cards were sent to acknowledge members tragedies or losses.
-Membership on the Fort Drum Liaison Committee.
6. Continue to cultivate a positive working relationship with administration and the Board of Education.
-Attended BOE meeting throughout the year.
-Faculty/Administrative Liaison Committee met once a month to bring questions, concerns and possible solutions to problems occurring in the district.
- We work closely with many Administrators on various committees throughout the district.
- During BOE Appreciation Week we presented CTA mugs to all board members.
7. Become more active in the community and enhance the image of the CTA in the community.
- Winner of the 2008 NYSUT Local Community Service Award.
- Three $500 scholarships given to graduating seniors.
- $50 contributions to each district library.
- $50 contributions to each ambulance squad within the district.
- Conducted a food drive for our local food pantry.
- Contributed to the Senior Citizen Shuttle Bus Service.
- Donation for Wigs for Kids Cancer Program.
- Donation to Hospice.
- Two $100 scholarships in memory of Gail Crimmins.
- Donation to the Dale Dalton Scholarship Fund.
- Dinner theater was open to the community.
- Donation to the Ronald McDonald House.
8. Build ties with School Related Professionals.
- The CTA recognized School Related Professional’s Day with a letter of appreciation and donuts for all SRP’s.
- Share and distribute information with SRP’s.
- Joined with the 4 other bargaining units in writing a response to the district’s response to re-open negotiations.
9. Improve Vote/Cope contribution.
- Winner of Abel Blattman Award from NYSUT.
- Winner of Vote/Cope Award AFT.
- Distributed Vote/Cope information and educational materials to both active and retired CTA members.
Although figures are not yet complete, estimates indicate another successful Vote/Cope drive.
10. Continue to monitor and improve programs.
- We have continued to monitor and be involved in as many programs as possible. There is a significant CTA presence on all district committees. Minutes from all meetings are now kept and posted on the district website as well as reported at DPT and CTA monthly meetings.
- Dental Study Committee worked very hard to study and research various dental programs available. The CTA proposal is complete but with the current budget concerns will most likely be denied.
- Mentor program has now grown to include the Induction Program as well. Many NYSUT, contractual and professional issues are discussed with our new members through the Mentor/Induction Program.
- Professional Development Committee continues to work hard to meet the professional development need of the staff. This committee also plans all Supt.’s Days.
- Building project progress and safety concerns were closely monitored. To date there have been very few safety concerns during this capital project.
- 5th Grade move went as planned and in accordance with the time table.
- During High School reform the progress of the HSIC was monitored and the advisory and 9th grade academy will be implemented next year.
