Curriculum Advisory Committee
Chairperson: Lauren McHale
The Curriculum Advisory Committee made our presentation to the Board of Education on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. The presentation focused on Special Education. The committee presented our guiding ideas, which stated: If we are dedicated to educating all students effectively and meeting our curriculum goals, then we are committed to continuing and extending the support given to our staff.
The board was presented with a variety of strategies that are currently being
used in the district. These strategies are the positive and successful things
that we as teachers do everyday to effectively teach our students. The committee
then presented suggestions to help improve our special education program. These
suggestions included common prep periods for all members of an inclusion team,
creative use of the 8:30 9:00 time slot for classroom teachers to meet
with their service providers (i.e. AIS, OT, PT, etc), and an increase in the
number of AIS service providers.
The committee will have two more meetings this year. The purpose of these meetings
will be to create and review our annual CAC survey. Please take the time to
fill out this survey when you receive it, and let the committee know what topics
you would like to see addressed in the future.

Staff Development Day was very well received. Extremely positive feedback was given for Lonnie Moore, the keynote speaker, and his message. Staff members felt The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People related to both their personal and professional lives.
Positive feedback was also given for the following in-service courses:Incorporating Educational Websites into the Everyday Classroom taught by Gina Paino, Expository Writing and the Research Process taught by Anne Wolff, and Encouraging Students to Become Proficient Writers taught by Rosemary Segerdahl.
The committee will be conducting its annual survey during the next few weeks. We greatly appreciate your input so thank you in advance for your feedback. Its our goal to provide you with courses that will meet your needs.
