BTA Contitutional Amendment Proposed
NYSUT Member Benefits such as insurance and travel discounts are available to retired members if they are listed on a local unit's roster. To that end, BTA has drafted an amendment to the BTA constitution to allow for retired members to be listed on our roster. The vote on the proposal will be June 13th, the same day as the Building Representative vote.

New York is facing an education crisis due to state policies: 30,000 teachers have lost their jobs and programs including AP classes, Career & Technical Education programs, arts, music, and sports to name a few, have been decimated. The state has reduced its role in funding education, passing it along to the local communities. A decade ago, the state covered 50% of the cost of education; now the state is picking up only 40%. In fact, state funding is less than it was just four years ago.
EducateNYNow unifies parents, students, teachers, administrators, unions, school board members and other community organizations around a campaign to demand that the state government fulfills its contitutional obligation to provide all NY youth with a quality education. Watch for more information over the next several weeks from NYSUT vice president Pollotta.
